It’s a new week, Florida State fans and there is plenty scheduled. Keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Florida State’s women’s basketball team will have a huge opportunity on Monday night as the 4-time defending national champion Connecticut Huskies come to the Donald L. Tucker Center.

The Huskies come in ranked third to face the 12th-ranked Seminoles. FSU kicked off its season by beating Jacksonville State, 73-62. Shakayla Thomas paced FSU with 16 points, but three others scored in double-figures.

Junior Kia Nurse is the player to watch for the Huskies with the ability to stroke it from deep and to get her teammates involved. Katie Lou Samuelson is also a very talented player.

UCONN has lost just one total game in its past three seasons, so FSU has an extremely tall task in front of it. The contest is scheduled for 6 p.m. EST and will air on ESPN2.

Between the Lines

After playing an intrasquad scrimmage on Sunday, FSU softball defeated Georgia in an exhibition, 15-5. FSU volleyball defeated Syracuse in four sets, 25-23, 25-9, 24-26, 25-20. Katie Horton led the Seminoles with 21 kills and 13 digs.

On the Agenda

Florida State’s women’s hoops contest against Connecticut is the only FSU athletic event scheduled.

News and Notes

FSU cross country athletes Harry Mulenga and Carmela Cardama Baez will compete in the NCAA Championships on Saturday.

The Nov. 26 contest between Florida State and Florida has been 6-day optioned by the ACC. That means a time and network will be announced on Sunday.

Florida State opens as a 19.5-point favorite over Syracuse. The teams play in the Carrier Dome on Saturday.

FSU’s men’s basketball team received 95 votes in the AP Poll, which was good for the 28th most.
