Happy Friday, Florida State fans. We’re one day from the Seminoles taking on N.C. State on the gridiron, but it’s a big day in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.
Lead Story
After winning the Southeast Regional Championship in Tallahassee two weeks prior, Florida State junior Guy Iradukunda fell in a heartbreaker on Day 1 of the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships in Flushing, New York on Thursday.
As he had done in two of his final three matches in Tallahassee, Iradukunda bounced back from a first set defeat against Wake Forest’s Skander Mansouri, 2-6. Iradukunda was able to win the second set 6-2 and force a third, but the final set went the way of the Wake junior.
With the set tied 4-4, Mansouri won the final two games which included a break point to take the match., 6-2, 2-6, 6-4.
Between the Lines
Aside from Iradukunda’s loss in Flushing, the FSU men’s basketball team defeated Valdosta State in an exhibition, 104-76.
On the Agenda
The FSU women’s tennis team will host the Seminole All Conference Showdown. The FSU swimming and diving team will take on Florida Southern while parts of the women’s team will visit Florida Golf Coast. FSU volleyball will play host to N.C. State while FSU soccer will take on Clemson in the ACC semifinals in Charleston. The match will begin at 8 p.m. EST and will air on ACC Network Extra.
