FSU Football: Guard Landon Dickerson Out With Torn ACL

Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher confirmed on Thursday that starting right guard Landon Dickerson would be out the rest of the year with a torn ACL. Earlier reports had circulated about Dickerson missing time with a knee injury, but the extent of the injury was unknown.

Dickerson is only a true freshman, but had already started seven games for the Seminoles in 2016. Wilson Bell was the starter before him but was benched after a discouraging performance against Ole Miss. That was after starting every game in 2015 at the same position.

Fisher continued and mentioned that Derrick Kelly and Wilson Bell would compete for the open guard spot. Kelly started the Ole Miss game at left guard after Kareem Are went out with an injury, but he also struggled and has largely been rotational since then. Kelly started four games in 2015 at the right tackle position before a knee injury forced him out.

Regardless of who starts in his place, Dickerson’s injury is disappointing for both his future and the team’s future. He had showed immense promise as a true freshman and was arguably better than some of the veterans on the line. Hopefully for FSU, he is able to fully recover and come back in time for the start of the 2017 season.
