The Daily Nole — Oct. 25, 2016: No Timetable for Derwin James’ Return

It’s Tuesday, Florida State fans, which means we’re just four days away from the 12th-ranked Seminoles taking on Clemson. In the meantime, there is a lot going on concerning FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated.

Lead Story

During his press conference Monday, Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher said there was no timetable for the return of sophomore safety Derwin James. James underwent successful surgery after tearing his meniscus in a Sept. 10 victory over Charleston Southern.

James was listed as out for 5-7 weeks, leaving many to speculate that he would be able to go for the highly-anticipated showdown with Clemson on Saturday, but it doesn’t appear as though that will be the case. A former 5-star recruit, James was unarguably FSU’s most versatile defender. Last season, James ranked first or second for the Seminoles in solo tackles, total tackles, sacks, tackles for loss and forced fumbles.

Through less than two games this season, James had recorded 11 total tackles, a pass break-up and his first career interception. James recorded nine tackles in last season’s 23-13 loss at Clemson.

Between the Lines

FSU’s Guy Irandukunda defeated Georgia’s Wayne Montgomery in three sets to capture the men’s ITA Southeast Regional singles tennis title. Florida State’s women’s golf team continues to lead the Cardinal Cup in Louisville. The Seminoles have a 4-stroke lead over Wisconsin.

On the Agenda

The FSU women’s golf team will conclude the Cardinal Cup in Louisville.

News and Notes

Former Florida State head coach Bobby Bowden introduced Donald Trump, Republican candidate for president, at a Tampa rally on Monday night.

Converted wide receiver Ermon Lane is now listed on the FSU depth chart behind A.J. Westbrook. Jesus Wilson is also still listed as the starter at receiver after injuring his foot against Wake Forest.
