The Daily Nole — Oct. 17, 2016: FSU Volleyball Continues Hot Streak

Florida State athletics had quite the successful weekend, with multiple teams coming away with victories. We break it down here with recaps, upcoming games, and notes about the teams.

Lead Story

Florida State women’s volleyball defended its court against the Pittsburgh Panthers on Sunday, winning the match in four sets by scores of 25-22, 24-26, 25-20 and 25-23. Three different Seminoles recorded double-digit kills in the match, including Milica Kubura with 14, Katie Horton with 11, and Christina Ambrose with 10. Melanie Keil racked up 11 blocks for the Seminoles, and Cecilie Woie tallied 13 digs.

The Seminoles are ranked No. 15 in the country and have compiled a 14-3 record overall with a 7-1 ACC record. Their next game is on Wednesday at 7 p.m. EST against the Miami Hurricanes in Coral Gables.

Between the Lines

Florida State softball held their annual Garnet and Gold scrimmage on Sunday morning. The Seminoles finished No. 3 in the nation last season and made it all the way to the Women’s College World Series.

On the Agenda

The Ontario Blue Jays come down to Dick Howser Stadium for an exhibition game against the Florida State baseball team. The game is set for 3 p.m. EST.

News and Notes

Travis Rudolph’s 238 yards receiving on Saturday were the fourth most all time for an FSU receiver.

Top Drawer Soccer released its list of the top 20 women’s soccer players from each conference. Florida State was well represented with four players making the list for the ACC. That includes Kirsten Crowley (2), Megan Connolly (4), Cassie Miller (8), and Emma Koivisto (16).

Per the ACC, Florida State’s home football game against Clemson (Oct. 29) will kick off at 8 p.m. EST. It will be broadcast on ABC.

FSU women’s soccer player Deyna Castellanos scored the most goals in U17 World Cup history. Castellanos played for her home country of Venezuela, who will participate in the third place match on Friday.
