It’s a new week, Florida State fans. Most are already turning their focus toward FSU’s upcoming football game against North Carolina, but Sunday was a big day all around for the athletic programs with four teams in action. We’ll keep you posted on what you need to know throughout the day and look back on a busy Sunday. The news and notes section will be updated as more developments roll in.
Lead Story
In a match-up of top 5 soccer teams in Tallahassee, No. 2 Virginia and No. 3 Florida State played to a 1-1 tie on Sunday. Veronica Latsko got the Cavaliers going early with a goal less than nine minutes in.
After being stifled for much of the first half however, FSU answered on a goal by Kristen McFarland in the 67th minute. That would be the end of the scoring as the contest ended in a tie in overtime.
Cassie Miller finished with three saves for FSU in the tie while Virginia’s Morgan Stearns had six. With the tie, the Seminoles move to 8-1-1 on the year. They’ll be in action next on Saturday at Pittsburgh.
Between the Lines
In addition to the tie on the soccer field, FSU volleyball defeated Louisville in four sets at home, 26-24, 25-18, 23-25, 25-22. Milica Kurbura led the Seminoles with 15 kills while Katie Horton added 10 kills to go along with 17 digs. FSU improved to 9-2 and a perfect 2-0 in ACC play.
FSU women’s golf took first place at the Schooner Fall Classic in Norman, Oklahoma over the weekend. Morgane Metraux also took the individual title for the Seminoles. FSU women’s tennis finished strong at the Furman Classic in Greenville, South Carolina.

There are no Florida State athletic events scheduled for Monday.
News and Notes
Florida State’s contest against North Carolina on Saturday will air on ESPN. The game time was announced previously, but no network had been set.
The start time for the Oct. 8 rivalry showdown between Florida State and Miami was 6-day optioned by the ACC on Monday. That means the time will be set on Sunday.
Junior tackle Roderick Johnson was named the ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week on Monday. Johnson anchored an offensive line that allowed the Seminoles to score 55 points and gain 647 yards in Saturday’s win at South Florida.
According to the depth chart provided for Saturday’s game against North Carolina, freshman Landon Dickerson and sophomore Brock Ruble will start at right guard and tackle for FSU.
Florida State’s Katie Horton was named ACC Volleyball Player of the Week after recording consecutive double-doubles in wins over Louisville and Miami.
