FSU Football: Xavier Peters Qualifies

Those who follow recruiting remember linebacker Xavier Peters from the recent 2018 class. Peters was a 4-star prospect out of Ohio who flipped to Florida State from Kentucky in late January.

Peters was regarded as one of the most talented players in the class, and his Under Armour All-American Game performance showcased what made him such a highly-regarded recruit.

As we reported back in January however, Peters still had some questions around his grades and whether or not he would qualify. He faced an uphill–though winnable–battle over the next few months. According to a report from Warchant, he has qualified at Florida State.

Peters making it into the class gives the Seminoles an immediate impact type player. He’s very athletic for his size and tracks down the ball carrier with astonishing speed. Something important to note is that Peters will likely not be a true linebacker at FSU. His weight and skill set make him a prime candidate to switch over to defensive end, which is a better scheme fit at this point in time.

It’s also a refreshing sight for Seminole fans who witnessed Shavar Manuel and Keion Joyner fail to qualify back in 2016. Head coach Willie Taggart and his staff knew the risk with Peters not qualifying, but they decided his talent was too great to not take a chance.
